Second Place: Todd Simms. Boat: Calypso Classic “23e” skiff, WLL: 21.00ft. Motor: Torqueedo Outboard, Power: Lead-Acid Batteries, Time: 3.30 Hrs, Speed: 7.22 MPH = 102.2% of Hull Speed.
Third Place: Jim Campbell. Boat: 20’ Old Town Tripper XL Canoe, WLL: 18.75 ft. Motor: MinnKota 36V, Power: 48V Lead-Acid Batteries. Time: 3.68 Hrs, Speed: 6.47 MPH = 97.0% of Hull Speed.

Conditions: Partly Cloudy, Low 70's, Winds NE 15-20MPH, 1-2 ft waves with whitecaps at first, then calmer. NOTE: Winners determined by percentage of calculated Hull Speed.
First Place: Todd Simms. Boat: Calypso Classic “23e” skiff, WLL: 21.00ft. Motor: Torqueedo Outboard, Power: Lead-Acid Batteries, Time: 3:40:00, Speed: 6.50 MPH = 92.1% of Hull Speed.
Second Place: Tom Hesselink. Boat: Budsin “Phantom” Launch, WLL: 20.83ft. Motor: Inboard, Power: Lead-Acid Batteries, Time: 3:46:00, Speed: 6.32 MPH = 89.9% of Hull Speed.

Conditions: Cloudy, Low 70's, Winds South 15-20MPH, 1-2 ft waves with whitecaps.
First Place: Jay Bliss. Boat: "Electra" a 16-ft Homebuilt Ply Runabout; Motor: stock 24V MinnKota; Power: 230V Prius Battery with 27V DC-DC converter, supplemented by two 12V marine batteries. Time: Approx 5:50:00, Speed: Approx 3.9 MPH. Notes: No extra gear to keep it light - not even a seat!
Second Place: Jim Campbell and Steve Lawing. Boat: 20-ft Old Town XL Tripper Canoe; Motor: eCanoe 1236D electronics powering two stock Minkota Endura 30's; Power: Nine 12V/55AH L-A Batteries jumpered for 36V. Time: 5:53:47 for 22.65 Miles (GPS Trip), Speed: 3.842 MPH. Notes: Electronics failure at 8.5 Miles. Continued on emergency 12V power which caused a very slow marathon this year.
Third Place: None (Two other entries could not start due to rough conditions).

The Wye Island Electric Boat Race for 2006, scheduled for 11 AM on Friday, October 6th was officially cancelled due to NOAA gale warnings and small craft advisories for the region due to the nor'easter that was dominating the local weather. Winds of 63 mph were reported on the Bay Bridge.
